Of course we need them when hiring. And of course any job candidate wants to know what would be his/her role and responsibilities. More experienced candidates would even want to know more about the culture in your company because they have realized that a company culture which is contrary to their personal values and beliefs will make even highly skilled people ineffective and unhappy.
Now let’s assume the application went well, we are convinced that’s the best person for the job and he/she is compatible with our company culture and the employer contract has been signed. We have increased our team by a very valuable person having many skills, interests and intrinsic motivations. Most likely many more than what is requested in his/her job description.
Do we really want to limit that valuable person to just these tasks, which have been predesigned and predefined in an attempt to optimize every step of a complex business process? Sure we could and it happens every day in every organization.
But many job roles today have changed from stable, predictable and repeatable tasks to more creative activities like analyzing and handling complex situations, problem solving, team work, communication, sharing, involving, etc.
With the right culture in place and a little goodwill, imagination, effort and flexibility on the employer side every company can make more out of their human potential. That little more is exactly what is needed in highly competitive and fast changing markets. It is the secret recipe for fostering creativity, boosting innovation and keeping employees highly motivated and engaged. And it is already there in every organization. It ‚only’ has to be grasped.
We all have been born with the incredible gift of being able to create realities just with a pure thought of our mind. We all are creators. Let‘s make more use of it.
